Commander-in-Chief National Historic Park

The Commander-in-Chief National Historic Park is a large protected area in west-central Anatolia spanning three provinces. It preserves sites and terrain significant to events that unfolded between 1919 and 1922.

The park was established in 1981 to preserve the battlefield where Turkish forces achieved their decisive victory during the War of Independence. These events directly led to the founding of the Republic.

The park contains memorials and monuments marking the struggles that shaped the nation's formation. Visitors can walk through places where these pivotal moments unfolded and see how they are remembered today.

The terrain is hilly and requires appropriate footwear and clothing for extended walking. Visitors should allow plenty of time to explore the various memorial sites and viewpoints scattered across the area.

The grounds include several strategically important ridges from which visitors can survey the entire battlefield. These vantage points offer direct insight into how military strategy played out across the landscape.
