Kerpe Plajı, Black Sea beach in Kocaeli Province, Turkey
Kerpe Plajı is a Black Sea beach in Kocaeli Province extending about 500 meters with sandy shores along the peninsula's northern edge. The clear water supports swimming and various water sports throughout the warmer months.
The site traces back to the ancient port of Kalpe from the 5th century BCE and served important trade routes for British, Roman, Byzantine, and Genoese merchants. Its coastal position made it a key point for merchant ships crossing the sea.
The beach maintains separate sections for men and women, reflecting local customs and accommodating different preferences. This arrangement shapes how visitors experience the waterfront throughout the day.
The beach provides showers, restrooms, lifeguards, and medical staff, plus bicycle parking and accessible entry points for people with disabilities. Conditions are most favorable from May through September when the water is warmest.
In September visitors can watch sunsets from Kartal Rocks while enjoying warm waters without summer crowds. This period offers the best combination of pleasant conditions with fewer visitors.
