Chacachacare Lighthouse

Chacachacare Lighthouse is a white cylindrical tower standing on the northern side of Chacachacare Island. The structure features a red lantern room at its top and a circular balcony for maintenance access.

The lighthouse was built in 1897 to serve ships traveling between Trinidad and Venezuela during a period of expanding maritime trade. Its construction marked an important shift in how navigation was managed across these waters.

The lighthouse stands as a maritime heritage symbol, representing the nautical traditions and coastal development of Trinidad and Tobago through generations.

Visiting the island requires advance planning through Chaguaramas National Park, as boat travel from the mainland is necessary to reach it. Check weather conditions beforehand and prepare for a water crossing.

The beacon from this tower can reach a distance of about 26 nautical miles across the water on clear nights, making it a significant aid for large vessels navigating the region. This extended range has kept it relevant to maritime operations for over a century.
