Songshan station, Underground metro station in Xinyi District and Songshan District, Taiwan
Songshan station is an underground metro station sitting beneath the streets of both Xinyi and Songshan districts in Taipei, with two levels below the surface. It has five street-level entrances and a central island platform that serves trains running in both directions.
The station opened on September 21, 2008, as part of an extension that linked Xinyi and Songshan more directly to Taipei's metro network. Before this line existed, travelers between these districts had to rely on buses or longer routes.
The station sits on the border between two districts, and its name refers directly to the Songshan area, once known as an industrial hub. Travelers passing through the corridors can notice artwork on the walls that draws from the craft and working history of this part of Taipei.
The five exits lead to different streets in both districts, so it is worth checking which one brings you closest to your destination before leaving the platform. Bicycle parking and taxi ranks are available near several entrances, making it easy to continue your journey on the surface.
The station straddles the boundary between two districts, meaning that depending on which exit you take, you step out into a different district. This split placement is relatively rare among Taipei metro stations.
