Lukang Township

The township features narrow alleyways, traditional markets, and over 200 temples dedicated to various deities across its urban landscape.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, this port city handled extensive trade of deerskin, rice, and sugar between Taiwan and mainland China.

Local artisans maintain traditional crafts in workshops throughout the township, creating hand-painted lanterns, carved religious statues, and decorative paper fans.

Visitors can reach the township by taking the high-speed rail to Taichung Station, followed by a transfer to the Lukang Route Shuttle Bus.

Several merchant families of Arab and Persian descent settled in Lukang during the 13th century, establishing a Muslim community with its own cemetery.
