Toucheng Township

Toucheng Township extends over 100 square kilometers along the northern coast of Taiwan, featuring coastal cliffs, mountains, and two offshore islands in the Philippine Sea.

Originally named Thau-ui, the area transformed from an indigenous settlement to an important trade center during the Qing Dynasty, receiving official township status in 1946.

Twenty-five urban villages maintain their local traditions through temples, festivals, and community gatherings that showcase regional customs and religious practices throughout the year.

The township connects to Taipei through Freeway 5 and operates multiple railway stations on the Yilan Line, including Toucheng Station and Wai-ao Station.

The area functions as a cable landing point for four major submarine communication systems, linking Taiwan's telecommunications network with international infrastructure.
