National Chi Nan University, National university in Puli, Taiwan.
National Chi Nan University is a public institution in Puli, central Taiwan, with four faculties covering education, humanities, management and sciences. The campus spreads over several hectares with lecture buildings, dormitories, sports facilities and open green spaces between the different sections.
The university opened in 1995 on land formerly used by the Taiwan Sugar Corporation and later grew into a regional center for higher education. The strong Jiji earthquake in 1999 forced a full evacuation of all buildings, after which the site was gradually restored.
The name Chi Nan refers to the central region of Taiwan where the campus sits, linking the institution to the geography around it. International students from Southeast Asia bring their own traditions into campus life, visible in food stalls, language signs and gatherings between lecture halls.
The campus sits on University Road and can be reached by bus services from larger Taiwanese cities that run regularly to Puli. Paths connect the different buildings, and the grounds are accessible during daytime for visitors interested in the facilities and surrounding area.
The university runs the Shuishalian Campus program, where students work directly in surrounding villages and townships on local projects. This approach links academic work with the rhythm of the region and gives hands-on experience beyond the lecture halls.
