Kalayeshan

Kalayeshan is a mountain summit in the Xueshan Range that rises to 3,133 meters elevation, featuring steep trails cutting through dense forests and rocky terrain. The route progresses through varying landscapes as it ascends from forested areas to higher alpine zones.

The mountain is part of Taiwan's Top 100 Mountains list, a collection created to showcase the country's diverse mountain landscape. This recognition has helped establish the peak as an important destination for hikers and climbers.

The name Kalayeshan comes from indigenous Taiwanese languages and reflects the deep connection of local communities to this mountain region. Visitors can experience this cultural link today through the way local traditions shape how people relate to the landscape.

Hikers need to obtain national park and police permits before accessing the mountain trails, with journeys typically starting from the Wuling Farm base point. Strong physical fitness is necessary as the routes are steep and require several hours of walking.

The summit forms part of the Wuling Sixiu hiking route, connecting four major peaks through hemlock forests and alpine meadows. This connecting path allows hikers to reach several peaks in one continuous expedition.
