Fenggang River

The Fenggang River is a waterway that flows through the region of Fangshan in southern Taiwan, moving westward from higher terrain toward the coast. It passes through varied landscapes where forests and agricultural land meet the water.

The waterway has supported human settlement and farming in the area since ancient times, with water being diverted for crops through a network of channels and ditches. Over centuries, the relationship between river and community has slowly reshaped the landscape around it.

The valley can be accessed from several points along a nearby main road that follows the course of the river, making different sections easy to reach on foot or by vehicle. The banks are generally open to explore, though conditions vary depending on season and rainfall.

A network of smaller streams feeds into the main channel, each bringing water from different parts of the surrounding hills and forests. These tributaries are often hidden beneath vegetation and easy to miss, yet they are essential to understanding how the whole system works.
