Mount Shizaitou, Mountain summit in Xindian and Sanxia Districts, Taiwan.
Mount Shizaitou (獅頭山) is a summit on the border between Xindian and Sanxia districts in New Taipei City, Taiwan. The top offers open views over a mix of urban neighborhoods, farmland, and forested slopes.
The mountain has long served as a natural dividing point between the communities now known as Xindian and Sanxia, predating the formal administrative boundaries. When New Taipei City took its current administrative form, the summit was confirmed as the official border between the two districts.
The Chinese name 獅頭山 means "Lion Head Mountain" and refers to the shape of the peak as seen from certain angles in the surrounding area. Hikers often try to spot this resemblance as they approach from the valleys below.
The summit can be reached from both districts, and the trails are generally well marked with rest spots along the way. Solid footwear is a good idea, as the slopes can become slippery after rain.
Although the summit sits on the administrative border of two districts, both approach trails begin in densely populated neighborhoods, meaning hikers can step from city streets into forest cover within minutes. This closeness to urban areas makes it a regular stop for morning walkers from both communities.
