Sanxia is an administrative district in southwestern New Taipei that covers roughly 191 square kilometers. It is the second-largest district in the city and blends both urban centers and rural areas.
The area took its name from the meeting point of three rivers: Dahan, Sanxia, and Horizontal, originally called Sa-kak-eng. In 1920, it was renamed Sankyō during the period of Japanese administration.
The Hakka Museum presents exhibitions and artifacts about how Taiwan's Hakka community has lived and maintained their traditions. Visitors can see how this group's way of life is connected to the wider region.
Visitors can reach the district by bus from Taipei or by using the Tucheng MRT line, which also connects to Yingge Train Station. Travel is easiest during daytime hours when public transit runs most frequently and the area is easier to navigate.
The Zushi Temple is known for its intricately carved stone columns, of which there are around 130. Artist Li Mei-shu led a major restoration effort on these ornamental columns, demonstrating the skill and attention to detail in local artistic traditions.
