Taitung Art Museum, Arts centre in Taitung City, Taiwan
The museum houses two main exhibition halls, the Mountain Song Hall and Ocean Dance Hall, situated across approximately 4 hectares of grounds. The structures combine contemporary architecture with references to Taitung's natural landscape.
The museum opened its first phase in December 2007, with a second phase completed in November 2009 to expand its exhibition space. This staged development doubled its capacity to showcase contemporary art.
The exhibitions feature works from emerging and established artists, offering insight into contemporary artistic expression in Taiwan today. Visitors can observe how local and regional artists engage with current themes across the rotating collections.
The museum sits near Taitung Station, making it easy to reach from the city center, with multiple halls to explore at your own pace. On-site facilities include a café and gift shop for visitor convenience.
The building incorporates natural materials and forms that echo Taitung's geographic features, particularly in the rooflines of the exhibition halls. This subtle connection to the surrounding landscape often goes unnoticed by visitors but shapes the entire design experience.
