高屏大橋, Steel bridge in Kaohsiung, Taiwan
The Kaoping Bridge spans nearly 2 kilometers and links Kaohsiung with Pingtung County across a three-lane road system. The structure includes separate lanes for motorcycles and bicycles, with vehicle lanes measuring about 3.25 meters wide.
The current structure opened in 2008 and replaced its predecessor that collapsed in 2000 during a typhoon. This third generation of the bridge was an important reconstruction effort for transport connections between the two regions.
The bridge connects two different regions and enables economic exchange between urban Kaohsiung and rural Pingtung. For locals, it represents an important link that brings communities closer together.
The crossing is safely designed and clearly marked for all vehicles, motorcycles, and bicycles. Visitors should expect normal traffic conditions, particularly during peak hours or in bad weather.
The structure features an arc-shaped design with extended spans built using advanced techniques to withstand earthquakes and strong water currents. The special shape allows the river to flow more freely during high water levels.
