From 1949 to 1987, during Taiwan's martial law period, the location served as a detention center for political prisoners. The facility was part of the governmental persecution system that operated during these decades.
The park displays photographs and personal belongings of those detained during the White Terror period. Visitors can trace the stories of these prisoners through the exhibited objects and written accounts on display.
The park is open to visitors daily with no entrance fee required. Plan to spend several hours exploring the various buildings and exhibitions at a comfortable pace.
The Human Rights Monument in the park was designed by Han Pao-teh and honors those who fought for Taiwan's path to democracy. The monument reflects how these struggles remain meaningful to visitors today.
