基翬漁港, Commercial fishing port in Chenggong Township, Taiwan
This commercial fishing port in Chenggong Township sits at a natural bay with docking facilities for fishing vessels. Water depths range from 1 to 7 meters and a large unloading platform sits at the waterside for handling catches.
The natural bay became an official port in 1986 when protective barriers and docking structures were built. This infrastructure allowed local fishing boats to use the site as a permanent base.
The name comes from the Amis indigenous language and describes the natural shape of a bay at the coast. Visitors can see this geographical feature directly when looking at the water and surrounding rock formations.
The site is best explored on foot where you can watch boats and port activities directly. There is no entrance fee and mornings offer the best time to visit when fishing boats return.
The waters surrounding this site contain over 70 coral reef formations scattered across the seabed. These reefs cover about 40 percent of the marine environment and make the area an important ecosystem for local marine life.
