Xingang Waterfall, Mountain waterfall in Chenggong, Taiwan
Xingang Waterfall drops down the eastern cliffs of Mount Xingang, creating a white water column visible from far away. The water descends in stages across the rock face before reaching the lower pools and streambed.
The area served as a home for early communities who adapted to life near the waterfall over many generations. Later groups of settlers also moved to the region and established their own communities in Chenggong.
Local communities have long held a connection to this natural site as part of their living landscape. The waterfall remains woven into the daily awareness and movement patterns of people in the region.
The trail to the waterfall is steep and uses fixed ropes and ladders to help with the climb. Wear sturdy shoes and expect wet, slippery conditions, especially after rain.
During the rainy season, the waterfall becomes so powerful it creates a narrow gorge and blocks direct access to its base. This seasonal strength makes the location feel completely different depending on when you visit.
