Caopu Senyong Tunnel, Road tunnel in Senyong Village, Taiwan
The Caopu Senyong Tunnel is a road passage about 4600 meters long that cuts through mountainous terrain, connecting Senyong and Caopu villages in southern Taiwan. The tunnel runs beneath the central ridge and provides a direct route that would otherwise require a long detour around the peaks.
Construction of this tunnel started in 2013 and took several years to complete, marking an important step in improving road access to this remote region. The opening connected previously isolated communities and significantly shortened travel times across the mountains.
The tunnel construction project incorporated input from local communities, reflecting the collaborative approach to infrastructure development in Taiwanese rural areas.
The tunnel is located along a main highway corridor and is open year-round with standard road conditions. Simply drive through at normal speeds; the passage is well lit and transitions smoothly to regular road sections on both ends.
The tunnel design implements specific engineering solutions to address the geographical challenges of the mountainous southern Taiwan terrain.
