天龍吊橋, Suspension bridge in Haiduan Township, Taitung County, Taiwan
Tianlong Suspension Bridge is a narrow crossing structure spanning the Xinwulu River through a mountainous area in Taitung County. The span measures approximately 110 meters long and sits about 80 meters above the valley floor, creating a prominent feature in the landscape.
The bridge was constructed in 1929 during the Japanese colonial period and represented an early modern engineering effort in the mountainous region. This crossing enabled better connections between remote mountain communities at that time.
The bridge links indigenous communities separated by the river valley, making it an important passage for local residents traveling between their settlements. Walking across, you notice how it serves as a meeting point for people from different parts of the mountainous region.
You can reach the site by taking the train to Taitung Station and then transferring to a local bus heading toward the mountain area. Wear sturdy shoes for the crossing and plan your visit during stable weather conditions.
The bridge is notably narrow at approximately one meter wide, making every crossing an unusually intense experience for visitors. This tight design paradoxically offers unobstructed views of the surrounding mountain ranges and the valley far below.
