Black Bat Squadron Memorial Hall, Military memorial museum in Hsinchu, Taiwan.
The Black Bat Squadron Memorial Hall is a military museum in Hsinchu spread across two floors within a structure modeled after a former American military building. The spaces contain scale models of 13 aircraft types and document the work of crews who conducted reconnaissance missions.
The museum was established in 2009 to preserve the story of the 34th Squadron, which carried out reconnaissance operations over mainland territory between 1953 and 1967. The squadron played an important role during a period of military tension between the island and the mainland.
The hall preserves personal stories of pilots and crew members brought to life through photographs and objects from their daily lives. Visitors can sense who these individuals were and understand the sacrifices they made during their service.
The museum is located opposite the Hsinchu Cultural Affairs Bureau and is easy to find in the city center. Plan to spend about an hour viewing the exhibition, as the two-level layout allows you to move at a comfortable pace through all the displays.
The collection displays items and documents of 148 crew members who died during missions, revealing the personal human cost behind the military operations. These names and stories are often the only record kept of those who participated in this secretive chapter of history.
