National Biotechnology Research Park, Biotechnology research center in Nangang District, Taipei, Taiwan.
The National Biotechnology Research Park is an industrial complex in the Nangang district of Taipei, made up of several buildings with research laboratories and offices. It houses the Biomedical Translation Research Center, Academia Sinica facilities, the Development Center for Biotechnology, and the National Laboratory Animal Center.
The park opened in 2018 on the grounds of the former 202nd arsenal, which had belonged to the Ministry of National Defense. The shift from a military site to a research facility marked a turning point in the history of this part of Nangang.
The park brings researchers, government bodies, and companies into a shared space, and this mix is visible in the day-to-day activity on site. Visitors can see people in lab coats walking between buildings alongside office workers, all sharing the same grounds.
The complex sits in an industrial area, so public transportation is the easiest way to get there. Not all parts of the site are open to the public, so it helps to know which facility you are heading to before you arrive.
The park offers shared advanced laboratories designed specifically for startup companies working on new biotechnology applications. This means young companies can use equipment that would otherwise be far beyond their budget without needing to build their own labs.
