BaiPaoHu Lake

BaiPaoHu Lake is a reservoir nestled in the hills of Shiding in New Taipei, with multiple observation decks overlooking its green waters and surrounding mountains. The area features walking paths and viewpoints at various elevations that reveal different perspectives of the landscape.

The water body formed during construction work in the 1980s, creating a significant change in the Shiding landscape. The area has since developed around this geological shift, transforming how residents interact with the terrain.

Tea farming shapes the landscape around this lake, with local growers tending Pouchong and Oriental Beauty varieties on steep hillsides. These tea fields are woven into the daily rhythm of life for people in the area.

The site is reachable by public buses from New Taipei MRT stations, or by car with several parking areas available throughout the area. Bring sturdy footwear and water when exploring the walking paths, as the terrain involves some elevation changes.

The shoreline shapes have been named Crocodile Island and Walking Catfish Head based on their distinctive forms. Each location offers its own view of the water and surrounding landscape, rewarding visitors who seek out different vantage points.
