Buluowan, Indigenous cultural center in Fushi Village, Taiwan
Buluowan is a visitor center in a mountain village in Hualien that showcases traditional architecture and culture of the region. The site includes bamboo structures, a circular amphitheater, a restaurant, and display areas that offer insights into local life and heritage.
The center was developed by Taroko National Park administration to provide broader access to local culture and history. The site emerged from a desire to preserve and present traditional knowledge and craft techniques of the mountain population.
The exhibition halls show multimedia experiences about Taroko culture, where artisans occasionally demonstrate their traditional techniques in workshop areas. Visitors can watch how local crafts are created and understand their meaning to the community.
The visitor center sits on a mountain plateau and is best visited early in the day when views are clearest. Comfortable shoes are recommended since the grounds are hilly with several paths connecting different buildings.
The surroundings feature laurel trees, bamboo, peaches, plums, and cherry trees that color the grounds differently across seasons. This mix of native and cultivated plants creates an environment that goes beyond a typical museum experience.
