Hsiang-Te Temple, Buddhist temple in Xiulin, Taiwan.
Hsiang-Te Temple is a Buddhist temple in Xiulin situated at 450 meters elevation, featuring traditional architecture with four-sided roofs, surrounding corridors, and detailed stone carvings. The grounds hold multiple buildings organized around a central courtyard.
The temple was founded in December 1968 and quickly became a major prayer site in the Xiulin region. Its establishment marked the growth of Buddhist practice in eastern Taiwan during the 20th century.
Inside the main hall, visitors gather to observe prayer ceremonies before three large Buddha statues that draw pilgrims from across the region.
The temple sits near the Tianxiang Recreation Area and is easily reached via Provincial Highway 8. Most visitors arrive early in the day when the air is cool and the sun rises over the mountains.
A 36-meter-tall statue of Ksitigarbha was completed in 1991 and is considered the world's largest representation of this Buddhist figure. The statue is visible from far away and shapes the overall character of the place.
