Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Lviv

The Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Lviv administers religious services across 3,767 square kilometers in western Ukraine through 311 parishes and 442 priests.

Established in 1539 as an Eastern Orthodox Eparchy, the institution joined the Catholic Church in 1700 and received metropolitan status in 1807.

Saint George's Cathedral serves as the principal church of this Byzantine-rite Catholic jurisdiction, maintaining Eastern Orthodox liturgical traditions within Catholic doctrine.

The administrative headquarters at Ploscha Sviatoho Jura 5 in Lviv coordinates activities across 18 deaneries and manages three theological educational institutions.

During the Soviet period from 1946 to 1989, the archeparchy continued its operations underground before returning to public religious service in 1990.
