Beskidzka tunnel, Railway tunnel in Carpathian Mountains, Ukraine
Beskidzka tunnel is a railway tunnel running through the Carpathian Mountains and connecting the regions of Volovets, Skole, and Stryi. The structure cuts through mountainous terrain spanning approximately 1,764 meters.
The tunnel was completed in 1886 and formed an important transportation link between different regions. The project emerged during a period of intensive railway expansion in the area.
The tunnel represents a major engineering achievement in Ukrainian railway infrastructure, demonstrating the technical capabilities of 19th-century construction methods.
The tunnel is used daily by trains traveling at speeds up to around 70 kilometers per hour. The route is accessible between Volovets and Stryi and forms part of the active railway network.
The structure was later complemented by a parallel tunnel connected through three passage shafts to the original tunnel. This modernization allowed the railway to increase train capacity in this important mountain crossing.
