Aluston

Aluston is a medieval fortress in Alushta consisting of two remaining towers positioned on elevated terrain. The ruins provide views toward the Black Sea coastline and surrounding areas.

Emperor Justinian I ordered construction of this fortress in the 6th century as part of Byzantine coastal defense. The location was later rebuilt and expanded under different rulers.

The site displays layered building styles from different periods, visible in the varied stone patterns and construction methods across the structures. You can observe how multiple cultures shaped the same location over centuries.

The ruins are located near central Alushta and are relatively easy to reach. Wear sturdy footwear, as the terrain is uneven and structures are partially in ruins.

The fortress was built with local limestone and Byzantine techniques, visible in the layered stone walls. This combination shows how local materials merged with classical building methods.
