Proletarskyi

Proletarskyi is an urban-type settlement in the southern part of Luhansk Oblast situated near industrial facilities at about 279 meters elevation. The settlement is located in an area shaped by economic and infrastructure activities.

The settlement was founded in 1922 near Kartushyne railway station and received urban-type status in 1938 during the Soviet period. These early decades shaped its development as a local center.

The place has Soviet-era origins and underwent a name change in 2016 as part of Ukraine's decommunization effort to remove references to the Soviet past. This shift reflects how the community has reshaped its local identity.

The place can be reached by road and rail connections that have historically served as main access routes. Visitors should prepare for limited tourist facilities and the rural character of the area.

Local coal mines that long supported the settlement's economy became exhausted around 2008 and closed. Since then residents have had to seek work in mining operations in neighboring areas, fundamentally changing economic life.
