Andriivka, Urban settlement in Snizhne Hromada, Ukraine
Andriivka is a settlement in Donetsk Oblast situated at an elevation of approximately 159 meters (520 feet) in an area with substantial chalk and clay deposits. The community spans across multiple kilometers in this resource-rich eastern region.
The settlement formed through the consolidation of several villages and gained urban-type status in 1938 when hamlets such as Bykivka and Yefanivka were incorporated. The construction of the Kursk-Kharkiv-Azov railway in 1869 had previously supported the area's economic growth.
The settlement experienced changes in population demographics, with Ukrainian residents representing 75 percent of the total inhabitants in early 2000.
The settlement is accessible via the railway network that passes through the area and serves as a transportation hub for the region. When visiting, be prepared for rural infrastructure and conditions typical of smaller communities.
The settlement's administrative status changed in 2024 when new legislation removed its urban-type classification and redesignated it as a rural settlement. This transformation reflected broader administrative reforms affecting the broader region.
