Кульчукское городище, Archaeological site in Gromove, Russia
The settlement occupies 1.5 hectares on a cliff, rising 11 meters above the Black Sea, protected by deep ravines on three sides.
Greek settlers established this coastal settlement between the 5th and 4th centuries BCE, which later came under the control of Chersonesus.
Archaeological excavations revealed multiple cultural layers, including Greek dwellings, Scythian fortifications, and early medieval Saltovo-Mayaki settlements.
The archaeological expedition conducts research activities annually during July and August, offering opportunities for field studies.
The site contains an arched doorway, which researchers consider the oldest architectural element of this type in the Northern Black Sea region.
