Governor's Palace, Colonial mansion in Williamsburg, United States
The Governor's Palace features symmetrical wings, a central cupola, and formal gardens surrounded by brick walls extending from the main structure.
Seven royal governors and two elected governors occupied this residence from 1722 until 1780, when Virginia's capital moved to Richmond.
The Palace ballroom served as Virginia's primary venue for colonial social gatherings, with regular dances and entertainment for elite society members.
The Palace opens daily for guided tours, allowing visitors to explore three floors filled with period furnishings and military decorations.
After burning down in 1781, the building was reconstructed in the 1930s using evidence from a copper plate discovered at Oxford's Bodleian Library.
