Meadowlands Arena, Indoor arena in East Rutherford, United States
Meadowlands Arena is an indoor venue in East Rutherford, New Jersey, marked by its cantilevered concrete corners that once served as entry points. The interior can hold more than twenty thousand spectators and is now used primarily for television production.
The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority built the structure for 85 million dollars and opened it on July 2, 1981, with six performances by Bruce Springsteen. After more than three decades hosting sports and music events, the venue closed to the public in 2015.
The building takes its name from the surrounding wetlands that have shaped the landscape for centuries and now remain protected as conservation areas. Visitors can recognize the former entrances where thousands of fans once gathered for concerts and games.
The site sits close to major highways in New Jersey and is easy to reach by car. Travelers using public transport can take regional train connections that stop nearby.
After closing as a public venue, the former luxury boxes turned into office spaces. The locker rooms once used by athletes now serve as dressing areas for television actors and production crews.
