MetLife Stadium is an open-air stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with a rectangular bowl of stacked seating tiers around a turf field marked with white yard lines. Its exterior is clad in light-gray horizontal panels, and a white roof structure with tall lattice masts runs along the top edge. Ten LED pylons stand at the north, south, east, and west entrances.
Construction began in September 2007 as a replacement for the previous stadium that stood on the same site. Completion followed in 2010 and the first game took place later that year.
The stadium's exterior lighting switches colour depending on the home team: blue for the Giants, green for the Jets, an idea borrowed from Munich's Allianz Arena. The 50,000 metres of aluminium louvers on the facade and the rotating 120-metre "Great Wall" at the west entrance carry the same split identity.
Access is available through NJ Transit trains, Coach USA buses, or by car with parking options in the surrounding complex. On event days, arriving early helps avoid crowds and delays.
The stadium's exterior skin of aluminum louvers and glass runs to exactly 50,000 meters of louver length, and interior lighting switches to blue for the Giants or green for the Jets depending on which team is playing at home. The idea came from Munich's Allianz Arena.
