Meadowlands Environment Center

The Meadowlands Environment Center is an education facility in Lyndhurst dedicated to studying the local wetlands and the plants and animals that live there. The building includes classrooms and laboratories alongside walking paths through the landscape where visitors can explore and learn about this natural space.

The center was developed in the 2000s to bring education about the wetlands to schools and visitors throughout the area. It grew from an effort to link teaching with the protection of this rare landscape.

Visitors can join guided walks through the wetlands to observe birds, insects, and plants in their natural setting. The trails and observation points give people a chance to see how this ecosystem works and why it matters to the region.

The center has parking and well-marked paths that guide you through the different areas. Visit on a dry day and wear comfortable shoes, as some routes pass through damp areas where the ground can be muddy.

The building was constructed using sustainable materials and solar panels and was a pioneering example of green building in New Jersey. As you walk through the center, you can see the environmentally conscious choices that went into its design.
