Corkscrew, Steel roller coaster in Valleyfair, Shakopee, United States
Corkscrew is a steel roller coaster at Valleyfair amusement park in Shakopee, Minnesota, featuring one vertical loop and two back-to-back corkscrew inversions. The track runs at ground level through a series of turns before rising into the inversion sequence.
Arrow Dynamics built the Corkscrew in 1980, making it one of the earliest rides in the Midwest to combine multiple inversions in a single experience. Arrow Dynamics was a leading manufacturer of this type of coaster at the time, and the same basic design was installed at several parks across the country.
The Corkscrew is one of the most recognizable rides at Valleyfair, and its looping silhouette is visible from many parts of the park. For many returning visitors, spotting it in the distance signals the start of a day at the park.
There is a height requirement to ride, so families with younger children should check before joining the queue. Wait times tend to be shorter on weekday mornings, making that the easiest time to get on the ride without a long wait.
The Arrow Dynamics corkscrew layout was installed at several parks across the US in the late 1970s and early 1980s, meaning riders at different parks were experiencing nearly the same ride. The version at Valleyfair is one of the few still running today.
