Renegade, Wooden roller coaster in Valleyfair, Shakopee, Minnesota
Renegade is a wooden roller coaster at Valleyfair amusement park in Shakopee, Minnesota, USA. The track runs through different sections of the park, and the wooden structure can be seen from several spots outside the park grounds.
Renegade opened in 2007 as the main new addition to the park that year, built to modern standards for wooden coasters that were being developed at the time. It marked a shift toward more technical wooden track designs at Valleyfair.
A Discovery Channel episode of Build It Bigger, aired in July 2007, followed the construction of this ride from start to finish. Visitors who have seen the episode often recognize specific sections of the track as they walk up to the entrance.
The ride is best enjoyed in dry weather, as the wooden structure can become slippery after rain. Weekends and warm days draw larger crowds, so visiting on a weekday or early in the morning helps avoid long waits.
The first drop follows an S-shaped path that changes direction mid-fall, which sets this ride apart from most other wooden coasters. Shortly after, the train makes a high-speed pass close to the station before the ride ends.
