Winterset

Winterset is a city in Madison County, Iowa, situated where US Highway 169 and Iowa Highway 92 intersect in the central part of the county. It serves as the administrative center for the county and contains historic buildings dating back to the 1800s.

The town received its name in summer 1849 when commissioners replaced the original name Summerset after encountering unexpectedly cold weather. This naming choice reflected the settlers' early experiences with the region's climate conditions.
