Ford Field, NFL stadium in Downtown Detroit, United States.
Ford Field is an enclosed stadium for American football in Detroit, Michigan, and home to the Lions. The venue holds around 65,000 seats arranged across multiple levels surrounding a synthetic turf field covered by a translucent roof structure.
The Lions relocated here in 2002 after spending nearly three decades at the Pontiac Silverdome. Construction began in 2000 and integrated parts of the former Hudson's warehouse, preserving old brick walls within the new structure.
The playing surface sits beneath a glass roof that lets daylight reach the grass, which is uncommon for enclosed venues. On game days, fans gather outside the entrance wearing blue and silver jerseys, celebrating together before kickoff.
Access is easiest via the People Mover station on the edge of downtown, from which you can walk to the venue in a few minutes. Parking for around 2,000 vehicles is available in surrounding structures, which fill up early on game days.
Some sections of the building still show the old ironwork and brick walls from the 1920s that came from the demolished Hudson's department store. These historical elements were integrated into the modern construction and remain visible to visitors in several places.
