Wickliffe Mounds, Archaeological site in Wickliffe, Kentucky, United States.
The site contains multiple earthen mounds and a central plaza area situated near the convergence of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers.
The settlement was inhabited from 1000 CE to 1350 CE as a ceremonial and administrative center of the Mississippian civilization in North America.
Archaeological excavations at the mounds have uncovered numerous artifacts including pottery, stone tools, and remnants of residential structures from ancient Native Americans.
Visitors can explore the museum exhibits, interpretive trails, and archaeological features while learning about prehistoric Native American life through educational programs.
The site maintains evidence of extensive trade networks that reached from Wisconsin to the Gulf of Mexico and eastward to North Carolina.
