Weisman Art Museum, Art museum at University of Minnesota campus, Minneapolis, United States
The Weisman Art Museum features stainless steel curves and angular forms on its exterior, creating reflective surfaces that change with daylight conditions.
The museum, established in 1934 as a university teaching institution, moved to its current Frank Gehry-designed building in 1993 through Frederick Weisman's patronage.
The collection includes 20,000 artworks, from American modernism pieces by Georgia O'Keeffe to Korean furniture and Native American pottery.
Located along the Mississippi River, the museum offers free admission and remains open Wednesday evenings until 8:00 PM for extended viewing hours.
The building presents two contrasting facades: a brick surface matching campus architecture on one side and metallic sculptural forms on the riverside.

Frank Gehry designs buildings with curved metal facades, irregular forms and experimental construction methods. His work defines urban spaces from Bilbao to Los Angeles. The exterior surfaces use titanium, steel or glass formed into wave-like or folded volumes. The interior spaces accommodate art collections, concert halls and commercial offices. The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao displays titanium panels that reflect the light of the Basque coast. The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles combines stainless steel surfaces with wooden acoustics for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein demonstrates his early approaches with white stucco surfaces and angled walls. The buildings emerge through computer-aided design that translates complex geometries into buildable structures.
Minneapolis features major museums like the Minneapolis Institute of Art, showcasing millennia-old art collections, and the Walker Art Center, focused on contemporary art. The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, Minnehaha Park with its 53-foot waterfall, and the Chain of Lakes network provide natural spaces. Downtown features the Art Deco-style Foshay Tower, the Skyway system, as well as the Orpheum and Guthrie theaters. Sporting venues include the Target Field and the U.S. Bank Stadium. The Mill City Museum and Fort Snelling reflect the city's industrial and military history.
