The Stripped Classicism architectural structure rises near the Mississippi River at the south end of Northrop Mall, featuring four floors of diverse facilities.
Architect Clarence H. Johnston Jr designed the memorial building, which opened in 1940 to honor former University President Lotus D. Coffman.
The second floor contains multiple cultural centers dedicated to African, Asian-American, La Raza, Disabled Student, and Queer Students communities.
The building houses the University Bookstore, Minnesota Marketplace Food Court, postal services, IT labs, and numerous student administrative offices.
The basement level includes Goldy's Gameroom entertainment center with bowling lanes and the Whole Music Club performance venue.
