Quad Cities, Metropolitan region at Mississippi River border, United States

Quad Cities are five towns along the Mississippi River, with Davenport and Bettendorf in Iowa, and Rock Island, Moline, and East Moline in Illinois. The settlements stretch across both banks of the river and form a connected urban area.

The area developed from Native American settlements into an industrial center after the 1832 treaty transferred large land areas to the United States. Later, factories and trading posts rose along the river, drawing workers from different regions.

The Figge Art Museum in Davenport holds collections from the University of Iowa and presents local artists through rotating exhibitions and learning programs. Visitors see works that document the Midwest and its people across decades.

Arsenal Island offers public access to military museums, Civil War cemeteries, and the Mississippi River Visitor Center, which operate seasonally. Visitors can reach the island by foot or car and plan several hours for exploring.

The Government Bridge connects Rock Island and Davenport on two levels, allowing trains and vehicles to cross the Mississippi River at the same time. This design enables continuous traffic for rail and road without the flows interfering with each other.
