Rucker Park, Outdoor basketball court in Harlem, Manhattan, US
Rucker Park is an outdoor basketball court in Harlem located between Frederick Douglass Boulevard and 155th Street. The court has regulation-height hoops on a concrete surface and shares the space with handball courts, a baseball field, and children's play areas.
A teacher named Holcombe Rucker organized basketball events here in the 1950s to provide sports and education to neighborhood children. The venue was officially named after him in 1974 to honor his commitment to the community.
This court serves as a gathering place for neighborhood residents and players from across the city who come to compete and watch games. The space reflects the deep connection between the community and street basketball as part of local life.
The court is open during the day and plays best in the morning or early evening when light is better and crowds are thinner. Restrooms and water fountains are nearby so visitors can stay comfortably for longer periods.
In 2022 the first professional outdoor basketball tournament with cash prizes took place here. Teams from across the country competed for high stakes while spectators watched from the sidelines.
