Dunbar Apartments, Revenue house in Harlem, United States.
The Dunbar Apartments complex spans an entire city block, featuring six buildings arranged in a U-shape pattern around central garden courtyards in Manhattan.
John D. Rockefeller Jr. established this residential complex in 1926 as the first large cooperative housing development for African American families in Manhattan.
Civil rights leaders W.E.B. Du Bois and A. Philip Randolph, along with Arctic explorer Matthew Henson, made the Dunbar Apartments their residence during its early years.
The complex contains 511 residential units equipped with modern features including wide-plank oak flooring, recessed lighting, and updated kitchens with stainless steel appliances.
The buildings housed the Dunbar National Bank, which marked the first banking institution in Harlem managed and operated by African American professionals.
