Montauk Project, Government conspiracy theory in Long Island, United States.

The Montauk Project is a conspiracy theory centered around alleged secret experiments at Camp Hero military base involving mind control and time manipulation research. The facility originally served as a radar station during the Cold War and contains a large, decommissioned radar building that sits at the center of the conspiracy narratives.

During the eighties, Preston Nichols published several books containing supposed memories of participating in classified government programs at Montauk Air Force Station. These publications grew into a widespread conspiracy theory linking various claims about paranormal research and military experiments.

The Netflix series Stranger Things drew from this conspiracy theory during development and originally carried the working title Montauk. Fans of the show now visit the site looking for connections between the fictional story and the alleged events, giving the grounds a renewed presence in popular culture.

Visitors can explore the former Camp Hero military installation, now a state park, where these alleged experiments supposedly took place. The abandoned radar building remains visible from the fence line though direct access is restricted, and the surrounding trails offer views of the Atlantic Ocean.

The theory connects to the Philadelphia Experiment, suggesting researchers conducted tests to make military vessels invisible and transport them through dimensional portals. Some versions of the story go further, claiming the base contained underground tunnels leading to other secret facilities.
