Scarborough, Coastal town in Cumberland County, Maine.

Scarborough spans across 47 square miles of land with multiple beaches, including Higgins Beach and Pine Point along the Atlantic Ocean coastline.

The settlement began in 1635 when Captain Thomas Cammock established a trading post, leading to incorporation as Scarborough in 1658.

The Winslow Homer Studio at Prouts Neck stands as a national landmark where the painter created numerous marine-themed works from 1883.

The town maintains several public beaches, conservation areas, and the Scarborough Marsh, which offers walking trails and water access points.

The Scarborough River system includes the largest salt marsh in Maine, covering 3,100 acres of protected wetland habitat.
