Winamac

Winamac is the county seat of Pulaski County in Indiana and sits along the Tippecanoe River. The small town features a historic downtown area with preserved buildings that reflect its past development.

The town developed in the 1800s as the administrative hub of Pulaski County and became a center for local commerce. Several buildings here earned places on the National Register of Historic Places due to their regional importance.

The Memorial Swinging Bridge in Winamac Town Park stands as a tribute to soldiers from the Civil War period and received renovations in 2023.

The town is compact and easy to navigate on foot, with historic buildings clustered in the downtown area. Visitors can find the main sites like Town Hall and the courthouse without difficulty in the central district.

When workers drilled for oil in 1877 near the Tippecanoe River, they struck a water vein instead, which was then delivered to local residents. This accidental discovery became an important part of the town's early development and local memory.
