111 West 57th Street, Residential skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, United States
111 West 57th Street is a residential tower of steel, concrete and glass in Midtown Manhattan with 82 floors of full-floor apartments that have floor-to-ceiling windows. The facade combines terracotta with modern glass surfaces and reaches a total height of about 435 meters (1428 feet).
Construction began in 2015 on the site of the 1925 Steinway Hall, a building that served for decades as a piano showroom and concert hall. Completion took several years and ended in the early 2020s.
The name comes from its street address along the southern edge of Central Park, where the tower rises among other buildings on what is called Billionaires' Row. Residents use the private rooms for receptions and informal gatherings on the upper floors.
The apartments are not open to the public and access is limited to residents and their guests. The view from the higher floors extends far beyond Midtown and the park.
The width of the building to its height is about 1:24, making it the most slender skyscraper in the world. This unusual proportion required special engineering solutions for stability and wind loads.
