Albany–Rensselaer, railway station in Rensselaer, New York
Albany-Rensselaer is a railway station in Rensselaer, New York, located across the Hudson River from downtown Albany. The two-story building contains a main lobby with a coffee shop and newspaper stand, while two long platforms with up to seven cars each are reached via an overhead walkway with stairs, escalators, and elevators.
The station opened in 1968 to replace the older Union Station downtown, which was demolished to make room for highway construction. The current building was completed in 2002 after a temporary structure served from the late 1990s, with a fourth track added in 2016 to improve operations.
The station links Albany and Rensselaer across the Hudson River, serving as a daily meeting point for commuters and visitors. It functions as a gateway to other regions, making it woven into the rhythm of local life and regional identity.
The station is easily accessible from major roads and offers nearby parking with daily and weekly rates. Elevators, ramps, and accessible restrooms ensure visitors with mobility needs can reach all areas comfortably.
The station was renamed in October 2023 to honor Joseph Bruno, a local political figure who played a major role in replacing the old station. This makes it a monument not just to transportation connections but also to the region's political history.
