Sayville, Suburban residential community in Suffolk County, New York
Sayville extends along the South Shore of Long Island with neighborhoods containing historical homes and a downtown district near the Great South Bay.
The settlement began in 1761 when John Edwards built the first house, later becoming an important center for timber and oyster industries after 1868.
The community maintains strong maritime traditions through regular festivals, markets, and water-based activities centered around the Great South Bay waterfront.
The Long Island Rail Road station connects residents to New York City, while ferries departing from Sayville provide access to Fire Island communities.
A wireless transmitter station established in 1912 became the first U.S. military action against Germany when authorities seized it during World War I.
