Alvah Kittredge House, Greek Revival mansion in Roxbury, United States.
The Alvah Kittredge House is a residential building in Greek Revival style, distinguished by six tall white columns across its front portico and an octagonal cupola crowning its symmetrical roof. The structure has been restored and now contains multiple residential units across its floors.
The building was erected in 1836 on the former site of Roxbury Low Fort and later became home to prominent architect Nathaniel Bradlee. It was subsequently relocated to Linwood Street, where it remains today.
The house shows how wealthy Boston merchants designed their homes in the early 1800s and what architectural tastes mattered to them. The style reflects the prosperity and refined preferences that defined Roxbury during this period.
The building is now divided into multiple residential units, with some designated as affordable housing. Visitors should note that this is an occupied house primarily used as private residences.
The interior preserves an original marble and slate floor in its central hall, a remarkable detail from its original construction period. Additionally, the ceiling features decorative painted glass work from the late 1800s.
